Assistant Professor
Christy Wessel-Powell is an assistant professor of Literacy & Language Education in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction at Purdue University. Her research focuses on literacy and equity in schools and across communities, through collaborative and often unavoidably political work. Dr. Wessel-Powell is also a former K-2 teacher.

Helen Bentley
Clinical Assistant Professor
Helen is a clinical assistant professor in literacy and language. Her research interests focus on social justice work that is embedded in both critical and equity literacy approaches to identity and pre-service teacher education. Helen taught elementary grades in both the UK and US.

Fay is a Purdue doctoral student in Literacy and Language. Her research interest include, critical literacy, critical content & multiculutral analysis of children's literature, preservice teachers, and educational equity.
Mengying Xue

Mengying is a doctoral student in Language and Literacy program at Purdue. Her research interests include visual literacy, multimodal literacy, and unconventional children's picture books.
Wonki Lee
Postdoc Researcher
Wonki is a post-doc researcher working in Purdue CIE (Center for Instructional Excellence). Her research interest is self-efficacy, diversity, and teacher education. She is the webmaster and designer of the current webpage. She is interested in culturally responsive pedagogy, structural equation modeling, and educational equity.

Rong is a doctoral student in Language and Literacy program at Purdue. Her research interest includes picture book reading and analysis, multimodal reading, and bilingual education.
Jacqueline Borchert
TTT & TELL Certificate Student
Jacqueline is a Transition to Teaching (5th-12th ELA) and Teaching English Language Learners student with a BA in Linguistics and minors in English and Asian American Studies. She is a Graduate Tutor at the Purdue Writing Lab and an OWL content designer. Before, re-entering Purdue, she was a preschool teacher for 4 years. She is interested in post-colonialism in writing centers.
Annabelle Hock
Undergraduate Researcher
Annabelle is an Undergraduate Research in Elementary Education with a minor in Global Studies. She is expected to graduate in Spring of 2024 with a degree in Education. She has worked with Dr Chan in research regarding TIP (Theory in Practice) Placements. This year she is an undergraduate researcher in training (URT) in Educational Research and will be conducting her own Educational study as well.
Alexis Snyder
Undergraduate Researcher
Alexis is an Undergraduate Researcher double majoring in History and Philosophy with a minor in Political Science. She will graduate in Spring of 2022 and will be pursuing a master's degree in Secondary Education for Social Studies. Alexis is part of Purdue's Undergraduate Research Training (URT) Program in Educational Research and is working on a project that focuses on educational policy.

Yimei is an undergraduate student majoring in general education with a psychology minor. Yimei is one of the members of Undergraduate Reasearch Trainee (URT) program and will focus on targeted literacy instruction and student reading intervention.

Marge has a BA and MS from Purdue University. She is a retired teacher with experience in first grade and fifth grade. Marge has also coached teachers in grades K-5. Currently, She is working for the COE either supervising at the elementary schools or instructing a section for EDCI 363.

Anne M. García is a PhD candidate in literacy and language at Purdue University. Her research focus is English learners, identity, Borderlands Theory, and anti-racist practices in schools. She taught Spanish and ENL at the high school level for 10 years.
